Just about everyone has heard the term fashion designer, but this term was actually born at Bunka.
In an era when city clothing stores looked at dressmaking magazines to make clothing, Bunka proposed the concept of designers as a profession and established it in society.

profession
Creating new technologies
Bunka-style
patterns
In his effort to find a simple way for anyone to learn dressmaking, Isaburo Namiki, Bunka Gakuen’s founder, devised a type of pattern for which the three-dimensional shape of the human body is flattened out.
This proved to be a factor leading to the subsequent expansion of Bunka-style clothes making throughout society, and the spread of Western clothing also helped to promote the modernization of Japan.
Creating new culture
Inviting
the world’s
top designer
In 1953, Bunka invited Christian Dior to Japan and started holding fashion shows throughout the country.
This directly revealed the world’s fashion trends to the general populace. This achievement is why Bunka is credited with advancing the world of fashion twenty years.
